NHS Health Checks

If you have been sent an invitation for a health check, (usually every 5 years from age 40-70) please speak to reception who will make you an appointment with our Nursing Team. You may need to have a blood test at the hospital prior to this appointment.

This check is to assess your cardio-vascular risk, and help you to identify and reduce the chance of having a heart attack or stroke over the next 10 years. It is not a well man/women check.

The Health Check involves taking your blood pressure, height and weight, along with some details about your lifestyle such as smoking history, alcohol consumption, and exercise levels

Following this our nurses will be able to advise you on lifestyle measures to help reduce your risk of a cardio-vascular event. Should the check identify any risk areas; such as high blood pressure or cholesterol which may require medication, then you will be advised to make a follow-up appointment with a GP.
